Welcome From Thursday Network 2011-2012 President Hakimu Shuttlesworth Davidson
Greetings from the Greater Washington Urban League's Thursday Network!
For nearly 20 years, Thursday Network has been the proud Young Professionals auxiliary of the Greater Washington Urban League, and since 1999, the DC area chapter of the National Urban League Young Professionals. We are honored to be an integral part of the community in Washington, DC, Prince George's County and Montgomery County.
Our mission is to provide a place for young professionals to support the Greater Washington Urban League and focus our energies on community service and economic empowerment, as well as our own personal & professional development and civic involvement.
TN has accomplished many great things since our inception. Our fundraising efforts have allowed us to provide nearly $150,000 in scholarships to service-minded youth through our "I Empower" Scholarship Fund; we established the Empowerment Academy mentoring program at Woodrow Wilson High School in Northwest DC; we annually put on the "Young Blacks Give Back" service blitz each May; and we've been recognized as the NULYP Eastern Region Chapter of Excellence for 2011 and NULYP National Chapter of Excellence in 2006.
We support GWUL and their many programs through volunteerism, fundraising, and relationship building. As so many in our community face tremendous economic and personal challenges, the multitude of services GWUL provides have never been needed more than they are today. It is imperative that we do all we can to ensure this great institution continues to Empower Communities and Change Lives.
I'd like you to join us. TN is THE place for young professionals in the DC area to achieve personal growth while making a true impact on the community. I encourage you to use this website as a resource to connect with us and learn about our various activities, and look forward to seeing you at one of our many upcoming events. There are many great things on the horizon for Thursday Network and our members.
Being a part of The National Urban League Movement and Thursday Network has been an honor and a truly rewarding experience for me and I am confident it will be for you as well. Our members are amazing, positive individuals with strong commitments to making a difference in their community while developing their leadership skills and professional abilities. We look forward to you becoming a part of the Thursday Network family so you too can say "I Am Empowered!"
Yours in the movement, Hakimu Shuttlesworth Davidson President Thursday Network
